MAKE YOUR OWN SEAMLESS PATTERN

Making seamless patterns from illustrations is a pretty useful trick. There are many ways to make a repeat pattern, but my favorite (& the most easiest way, according to me) is using Photoshop! Here's how I made this one.

Hampi has been in my ‘must visit places’ list for some time now and with a long weekend, I could finally make it! A world UNESCO site, Hampi (former capital of the Vijayanagar Empire) was one of the richest cities in the world at its prime. It is an idyllic town, with the skeletal remains of what once was a thriving city.

THE TACTILE DREAMS

Dreams...You know, the ones which are unreal, bizarre, a bit too real...A nightmare, perhaps...The ones which leave you shivering in the middle of the night...Some are filled with colors and some just keep coming back. These are exactly 2 years old..a time when i was trying very hard to understand what I really wanted to do with my life....while i was exploring and experimenting...

INSPIRED BY - THE BEATLES

I sometimes feel, Mum and Dad were soooo very lucky to have been around during 60's, to have actually witnessed the Beatle's mania. Not only that, the whole retro way of life! The jakie-o sunglasses, the bell-bottoms, the prints and what not...well, never mind...I, love it anyway...Thought I'd share some of my "Beatles" inspired illustrations.

RANDOM RAMBLINGS

In the past couple of years, I have had to travel alone a lot. I do enjoy traveling and I especially like airports (better than Indian railway stations). Even my job as an art director requires me to do site visits, for which I obviously have to travel. So, yea...I quite like that.

For startup, design can play such an important role and help in standing out in a vast sea of competition!

SPRING COLORS AND FASHION

I've been obsessed with bright colors lately. Only when it comes to painting and illustrations though. I tend to prefer wearing a more earthy and basic color palette with browns, grays and black. Though sometimes its nice to brighten things up a bit!

I DRAW THEREFORE I AM

You know, sometimes it so happens, you stumble upon the exact thing you need to hear or read. That thing...that's absolutely essential and relevant to your present state of mind and you don't realize it until you come across it? This article I read on BrainPickings about the illustrator Lynda Barry, was something like that to  me. It talks about how drawing/doodling can be therapeutic and how to cultivate the capacity for creative observation. I draw/doodle almost everyday. For me it's become more of a habit now.

THOUGHTS TO THINK ABOUT...

I don't write as much I would like to..ideally..but sometimes when things are kinda off and
I'm feeling extremely moody..I write. So, this is what I wrote quite recently and then as a Sunday activity, I illustrated it . It is a poem, I guess. Well... see you yourself..

STREET SHOPPING LOVES

OH! how I love street shopping! And whenever I'm in Kolkata, Hati Bagan is a must visit for me. I get most of my accessories from there. But you just don't get jewelry in Hati Bagan.

ALL THINGS GO

Sufjan Stevens is one of my fav artists ever..I was listening to his newly released album today and as usual most of the tracks were amazing! What I love about his music is the fact that he talks about the little things in life. Everyone seems to drone on about the big picture and all things grand and shinny. Who's got time for the little things, huh? Well, not this guy..at least that's what I think..I mean, he appreciates a girl's croquet skills (Futile Devices), he sells his clothes for freedom (Chicago) and he notices how in the morning, through the window shade, the light presses up against Casimir Pulaski's shoulder blade while she sits reading a book...you get the drift, yeah?  

RANDOM DOODLING

I find it difficult to sit idle. Don't know what to do with my hands...does anyone else feel that way? Doodling is the best and most productive solution to the afore mentioned problem. It's funny, as I don't realise what I'm doodling, until after I run out of paper! Stream of thoughts...you know, that constant buzz in the head. And when I draw, some of these 'thoughts' are pinned onto the sketch book..every little artist's story I'm sure. This one looks kinda demented, now when I look at it..what say?
